LIBRARIAN RESOURCES

This page includes resources and information for librarians at subscribing institutions. If you are interested in becoming an institutional subscriber, please visit our Subscribe to the SPIE Digital Library page.

Account Management

Users with administrative rights can access the Institutional Administration dashboard by logging in to the SPIE Digital Library with their personal user account, then navigating to My Account > Institutional Administration. There, administrators can view their account and subscription information, access usage statistics, and review any access suspensions. Please email spiedlsupport@spie.org to make the following changes:

  • Update IP addresses
  • Add administrative rights to a user account
  • If you have misplaced the username of a user account with administrative rights

Branding

When a user's IP is affiliated with a subscribing institution, the institutional name and logo appear in an "Access Provided By" popup that can then be closed by the user. Logos have a minimum size requirement of  145px X 75px and minimum dpi of 72. To add or change your organization's logo, administrative contacts can send the logo image to spiedlsupport@spie.org.

COUNTER Reports

Users with administrative rights can download usage statistics in COUNTER format, and access SUSHI credentials necessary for automated statistical harvesting, by signing in to the SPIE Digital Library using their personal user account and then navigating to My Account > Institutional Administration > COUNTER Reports. For detailed instructions, please download our COUNTER Usage Reports Guide.

MARC Records

MARC records for SPIE eBooks are freely available and supplied by SPIE. MARC records for SPIE Proceedings and Journals are supplied by OCLC.

OpenURL

The SPIE Digital Library supports both outbound and inbound OpenURL linking.

  • When outbound OpenURL linking is configured, the References tab of a journal article or ebook chapter will include links that take the user to your link resolver's result pages for the references being cited. To set up outbound linking, email spiedlsupport@spie.org and provide the link resolver's base URL, the link text, and the URL of the hosted link image (maximum image dimensions are 150px wide x 30px high, and the maximum file size is 5KB.)
  • Inbound OpenURL linking is supported at the journal article, proceeding article, and book chapter level. SPIE works directly with link resolver vendors to provide them with metadata for the resources in the SPIE Digital Library.

Promotional Materials

To assist with promotion and users' questions, please see the New Features page. To build subscription awareness and usage with our free promotional materials such as notebooks, pens, bookmarks, and posters, email spiedlsales@spie.org.

Remote Access Methods

Affiliated User Accounts
A user at a subscribing institution can affiliate their personal account with the institutional subscription in order to use the SPIE Digital Library remotely (for example, from a home computer or mobile phone). To do so, the user should simply create a personal account, or sign in to an existing one, while on a computer within the institution's IP range (for example, from a desktop computer at work or school, or while otherwise connected to the institution's network). This automatically affiliates the personal account with the institutional subscription for a period of three months. After this, the user can again sign in from within the institution's IP range in order to renew the affiliation.

EZProxy
The EZproxy database definition for the SPIE Digital Library is:

URL https://www.spiedigitallibrary.org
HJ www.spiedigitallibrary.org
HJ datacoll.spie.org

IP authentication
Users with administrative rights can view their account's accepted IPs by logging in and navigating to the Institutional Administration dashboard. To update your IPs, please email spiedlsupport@spie.org.

Shibboleth
The following Shibboleth federations are supported: UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research and DFN-AAI (Germany). If your institution belongs to one of these federations, please email spiedlsupport@spie.org to enable Shibboleth authentication for your users.

Download the most recent title list of publications available in the SPIE Digital Library (last updated 11/30/2017). This data is formatted to comply with the KBART standard, and is provided monthly to vendors of discovery and indexing services.

Some Proceedings volumes are not available in the SPIE Digital Library, and thus do not appear on the title list. Please see Proceedings Volumes Not Available Online for a list of these volumes and more information.
